On November 28 the LAVA gang gathered for a Thanksgiving weekend Sunday Salon featuring delightful, and unexpectedly interconnected, presentations from renegade seamstress A. Laura Brody, Little Tokyo photo archives protector Michael Risner and symbolist painter Eva Montealegre. For those who missed the fun, much of the proceedings were caught on video, and can be viewed at your leisure, or perused in thumbnail format.

The Sunday Salon happens on the last Sunday of each month from noon-2pm upstairs at Clifton’s Cafeteria, always free and all are welcome. Join us next month for more Visionary cultural explorations, tasty treats and good company.

With husband Richard Schave, Kim curates the Salons and forensic science seminars of LAVA- The Los Angeles Visionaries Association. When the third generation Angeleno isn’t combing old newspapers for forgotten scandals, she is a passionate advocate for historic preservation of signage, vernacular architecture and writer’s homes. Kim was for many years the editrix of Scram, a journal of unpopular culture. Her books include Fall in Love For Life, Bubblegum Music is the Naked Truth, Lost in the Grooves and an oral history of Neutral Milk Hotel.
