“LA DIOSA” – A sculptural “Other-World” multi media exhibition by Artist LT. Mustardseed

Exhibition runs from September 4 through September 30, 2011; opening Reception for the artist: September 8, 2011 from 7 pm – 11pm

We are pleased to present an “Other-World” sculptural exhibition by LA based artist LT Mustardseed, that merges two spiritually powerful worlds: The Pre-Columbian Aztecan belief system of gods and goddesses and the impeccable Catholic iconography of “La Virgin de Guadalupe”  (The Empress Mother of the Americas).

The exhibition “La Diosa” is located at Gallery 1927 in the Fine Arts Building 811 W 7th Street, LA CA 90017.  The gallery is open for viewing 24hrs a day through September 30th 2011.

LT’s vision of building a monumental sculpture of “La Virgin de Guadalupe” was a dream followed by a series of coincidences. LT’s process unfolded after several research trips through central Mexico, Mexico City and the famous basilica of Tepeyac, (the hill on which “La Virgin de Guadalupe” appeared to Juan Diego in 1531). Tepeyac is also believed to have been the Pre-Columbian worship site for the indigenous mother goddess Tonantzin.

This body of work expands LT’s capabilities and genre type from fantastical insects and nature environments to embrace mythical Aztecan figures and the challenges of new sculptural techniques and fabrication.

LT presents us with her sculptural interpretations using found objects, taxidermy, welded metal and machinery to awaken the deities from the “Otherworld”.  LT also embraces religious stigmata, 17th century New Spain, elaborate santo cage dolls, and Milagros (miracles).

“I am not a catholic or claim any singular religious group I am spiritual, my creations come to me in dreams.  With all respect intended to “La Virgin de Guadalupe” and her followers, this exhibition is about the spiritual integrity of Art and not the Catholic church belief systems.”
