L.A. Dining Discoveries - what do you crave?
This thread is a place to brag about delicious dining discoveries you've made while exploring L.A.
Here's mine: on the edge of Vernon and Boyle Heights, where you can see the trains run by on the trestle bridge and the air sometimes (okay, usually) smells like the stockyards, right next to the porno store, is El Borrego de Oro #1. The specialty of this Hidalgo State restaurant is sheep barbacoa (slow roasted mutton), but since getting a bad taquito a year ago, I'm semi-veggie -- that is, what I don't know happens in a kitchen, I hope doesn't hurt me. My husband is a carnivore, and I'm used to settling for a mediocre veggie burrito, but at the sign of the Golden Sheep, there are several yummy options for the meatless. The flattened Chile Relleno in a piquant red sauce veers between very tasty and the best iteration of this dish I've ever eaten. Cheese Pupusas have a slightly carmelized edge that delights. But it's the Tlacoyo de Papas that really draws me back: a hand-shaped corn masa dumpling stuffed with soft potatoes, drenched in a sour green tomatillo/cilantro/onion sauce with a sprinkling of hard cheese. It's like a Mexican knish, crunchy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and totally incredible. They also specialize in mixed fruit juices, and you can get your sheep to go. Best of all: Pupusas, Rellenos and Tlacoyos can all be ordered ala cart, so you can mix and match for a cheap, varied meal. Check it out next time you're in Boyle Heights!

Andre's Restaurant. It's tucked inside a shopping complex between a K-mart and a Whole Foods (at the corner of 3rd and Fairfax). It's simple. It's cheap. It's one of the last cafeterias left in this city. Plus on Tuesdays, they serve a great lamb dinner.
Mr.Richard i also have visit the K-Mart the which you mentioned but i could not find out any restauren as you mentioned.
Can you give me the solid information about this one again?
[editor's note: check out the Yelp reviews, which tell you how to find Andre's... "In the plaza, it is between Payless and Whole Foods, and you have to walk all the way in before you get to the door"]
