Paul Hastings Tower, 51st Floor

Los Angeles, CA 90017

LOS ANGELES, CA – Exactly one year after Mubarek was overthrown in Egypt, Cleopatra will take over and reign from the 51st Floor of Paul Hastings Tower in downtown Los Angeles in February 2012. From Caesar the Stuntman to the Cirque du Soleil-inspired Cleopatra, Heidi Duckler Dance Theatre’s new work Cleopatra, CEO. will premiere on February 9, 2012 with a Egyptian VIP Gala, complete with live music, food, and drink.

From the legendary 1963 Elizabeth Taylor movie to Stacy Schiff’s new novel Cleopatra: A Life, the distinguished female icon of Cleopatra has returned to take up residence right here in Los Angeles. As athletic dancers create magic in and around the former corporate space, the audience will experience a dance performance unique to downtown.

The performance will interweave the gender biased myths and propaganda associated with the icon Cleopatra as a feminist, or femme fatale of the east, with the male dominant corporate lineage of the oil men of the west, for this particular floor of the Paul Hastings Tower was initially inhabited by ARCO Oil Company. This new multimedia dance performance will focus on the nature of power and how the media shapes our sense of history. The public is invited, whether commuting by barge or corporate jet, to join us in the penthouse of the Paul Hastings Tower to experience an “over the top” feast of dance, music and theatre.

Opening night, Thursday February 9, 2012, will coincide with an evening Gala for audience members.
Tickets will be sold online at www.heididuckler.org and at the door.

Heidi Duckler Dance Theatre (HDDT) creates ephemeral contemporary art experiences in extraordinary places that boldly redefine the relationship between audience and art. Through cultivating innovative collaborations with artists, arts organizations and local communities, HDDT brings meaningful interdisciplinary dance to new audiences throughout Los Angeles and the world.

Experiential Painting with Eva Montealegre

Art, Music & Dance

Reception, Saturday,  May 14,  6 - 10 pm
at 216 The Promenade, Long Beach
Opening night in conjunction with the Long Beach Art Walk

Participating Artists: Armineh Teimourian, Sally-Anne Swift, Patricia Ferber, Roy Anthony Shabla, Randal Reel, David Oldrieve, William Emboden, William Haugse, Eva Montealegre, Lark, Sel Sarkin and Susanne Swanson-Bernard.

8:00 pm Live Music by SangomaBeat - Enjoy African Fusion Jazz with vocalist Pashyo Sarkin.

Experiential Painting by Eva Montealegre: Eva will begin with a near-naked canvas with only its “under-painting” and create an experiential painting. This is the recipe she uses for all her paintings.   Eva’s organic spiritual connection is always present as a through-line in her ingenious artistic expression.

Springing from the foundation of the artist’s personal experience there is a harmonious community with the Medicine Dance Members which will continue to take root. To this already potent recipe we will be adding the spice of the lively sounds of Sangomabeat. In this multi-dimensional creative environment Eva will paint. The combination of artist, paint, canvas & the alchemical potion of audience, dancers & musicians is a venue for connoisseurs of artistic ambience.

Please come with an open heart & mind with no pre-conception but merely the willingness to discover what this might mean. If the flavor of the creative dish is right, audience members will be invited to participate in the movement. Don’t miss it!
