Dear Visionaries, this is a test of the "Visionary only" posting service on the LAVA forum. By pulling down and selecting the menu bar "Visionary: visionary only forum topics" I am seeking to create a hidden discussion forum that is only visible to visitors who have Visionary status.

How might hidden discussions for Visionaries be useful? This can be a place for offering free tickets for your events to Visionaries who want to blog and review them, as well as a place for networking, making suggestions, hashing out internal questions of what LAVA is all about and how it might better serve the community. Let's see if this method of semi-hidden posting works and then we'll see if it's useful. Of course we hope many of you will participate in the public forum, with comments that can be read by all visitors, not just by Visionaries.

HOW TO: post a blog entry on the LAVA website

The LAVA blog is a community resource which all LAVA Visionaries are welcome to use, after first requesting blogging privileges via email from lavatransforms@gmail.com.

There are three categories for blog entries, and your blog post should fit into one of them. They are listed and described below.

1) Loving Los Angeles: share your stories about the things in LA that delight you, today, in your memories or in the future.

2) The creative process: share stories about how you do your work or about your intersections with others whose work you respect. This is a category for expressing the things that make you a Visionary.

3) Reviews of LAVA events: LAVA members are encouraged to attend each others' events, and to write about them if they are so moved--we encourage offers of free or discounted tickets to LAVA colleagues who wish to review. In the interest of good fellowship, we ask that you not give negative reviews to each others' events, though constructive criticism in an otherwise positive review is welcome. Like your event listings, blog entries will go into the moderation queue and be posted after they are reviewed by LAVA organizers.

Below is a link to a video tutorial showing how you can post a blog entry, after you have first asked for blogging privileges by emailing lavatransforms@gmail.com.

HOW TO: List events on LAVA website

POSTING EVENT LISTINGS ON THE LAVA WEBSITE

LAVA thrives on event listings, and as a LAVA Visionary, you have the unique ability to add your upcoming LAVA-friendly events to the calendar. All events added will go into a moderation queue, and be put live on the site if they fit our loose requirements (LA-based, unique, thoughtful, organized by a LAVA Visionary alone or with collaborators, with sufficient info so readers will know what's happening, has a website associated with the event). If you have any questions about the suitability of your upcoming events, you can either email lavatransforms@gmail.com or add them to the site and await feedback.

We have created a screencast showing the process for adding an event to the website. If you are organizing or performing in any events that you would like to have listed on the LAVA site, please watch this short video and submit them to the calendar, as early as possible. Questions, just email lavatransforms@gmail.com.

HOW TO: make photos show up on LAVA website event listings

We have created a screencast demonstrating how you can use the Flickr.com website to host (for free) the photo that will illustrate any one of your LAVA event listings.

Please watch this online video to learn what information you need to copy from your Flickr photo page to the LAVA site to make the photo appear on LAVA. Questions? Just email lavatransforms@gmail.com.

HOW TO: Add your bio to the LAVA website

The first thing you should do is to login to your account at http://www.lavatransforms.org and create your personal bio page on the LAVA website.

This is the ABOUT ME section that will tell visitors all about your creative life and where they can find you on the web and in real life. Feel free to insert as many links as you like, and you'll also need to select one URL that is your main link. If you don't have a website, you are welcome to use http://www.lavatransforms.org as your main link.

We have created a screencast (an online video) that shows you how to log into the LAVA site and create your bio. Please view it at the link below, noting that you can use the sliders on the sides to move the screen around if anything slips off the edge where you can't see it. Then go post your bio, and please email us at lavatransforms@gmail.com if you have any trouble.
