You know it when you see it, hear it or read it. When you can detect the heartbeat behind something that someone created, when it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s clear to you why they did what they did \u00e2\u20ac\u201c why they bled to make it and why they need to share it \u00e2\u20ac\u201c it means something to you. Us too.<\/p>\n
Roar Shack is a new collective of writers and artists, and over the coming months we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re going to bring you voices. Some of us come from fiction, some from memoir, some from poetry, and from music and performance and just about anything that leaves its own blood on the page. We want to bring you what you may not be getting much of. Won\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t you join us?<\/p>\n

Chiwan Choi: Chiwan Choi is the author of two poetry collections, The Flood and Abductions. He also runs Writ Large Press, a small literary press featuring some of the best Los Angeles writers. He has read with the original Colony in San Francisco and has been on tour for Abductions.<\/p>\n
Jillian Lauren: Jillian Lauren is the author of the memoir Some Girls: My Life in a Harem and the novel Pretty. Her writing has appeared in The Paris Review Daily, The New York Times, Los Angeles Magazine and Vanity Fair among others. She has performed at spoken word and storytelling events across the country and is co-host with comedian Melinda Hill of the new hit podcast Eat My Podcast. She recently debuted her one-woman show, Mother Tongue.<\/p>\n
Shilpa Agarwal: Shilpa Agarwal is the author of award-winning novel, Haunting Bombay, a story of love, mystery, and betrayal set in 1960\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s India about a family who have buried the tragic history of a child\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s drowning and the ghosts of the past who rise up to haunt them.<\/p>\n

Live Writing: a thrilling feat of writerly improvisation!<\/p>\n
What is Live Writing? As you arrive, you get to vote on a prompt. The winning prompt will be revealed to four intrepid authors \u00e2\u20ac\u201c two of us and two of you audience types, onstage for all to see! We\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll all write to that prompt while Scott plays \u00e2\u20ac\u201c it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s going to be impossible not to listen to him, but no one said this was going to be easy. Then the Live Writers will each read their just-written words, and the audience gets to vote! The winner will develop the work into a finished piece to be read at the next show. The piece will also be featured on Roar Shack\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Facebook page and online.<\/p>\n
