Director Jerry Taft has chosen two monologues from the first and second acts (by the Prosecuting and Defense Attorneys) to highlight this three-act play about a sensational courtroom trial of a showgirl accused of killing of her millionaire lover. The Trial of Mary Dugan was written by Bayard Veiller and opened on Broadway in 1928 to critical and commercial success. Norma Shearer starred in the 1929 film. At the conclusion of the monologues, Jerry will take the role of The Judge and deliver Mary’s sentence. This partial staging is meant to guage interest in a full staging of the play, to take place in the Grill Room later in the year.
The Grill Room, where the play will be staged, is adjacent to the bar. We encourage attendees to arrive early to take advantage of happy hour prices and complimentary hors d’oeuvres. Those who are so inclined can order dinner following the play, in the bar or in the Grill Room. The Los Angeles Athletic Club will validate your parking in their lot for three hours with the purchase of a drink at the bar.
Registering for the event is required (unless you are already member of the Los Angeles Athletic Club) as guests will have to check in at the front desk before being directed to the bar and Grill Room on the third floor.
